The worst news any mother can hear moments after delivery is that their baby isn’t going to make it. On October 4th, 1986 that baby was me. Born with a heart murmur, breathing complications and pneumonia, my chances of survival were slim to none. It wasn’t until I was in 2nd year University that I had found out I was born a ‘miracle baby.’ I came home from school one day and talked to my mom about how I had just read an article about the negative effects of Folic Acid deficiency in pregnancy. Within that 20 minute conversation one comment has since changed my life. She mentioned how she use to boil lamb bones and drink its broth to absorb calcium and other nutrients while pregnant with me – a moment I will never forget. A B.Sc Pharmaceutical degree and 2 years of product development later, I now journey to bring awareness on the importance of proper nourishment during pregnancy.
